  • Pour a drop of lavender oil onto a cloth piece or ball of cotton to prevent mosquitoes and moths. Daily use of the oil can make your home free of termites.

  • Half an hour prior to burning a fire log, you can pour a drop of cedarwood, sandalwood, pine or cypress oil on it. This will help you to burn a perfumed log.

  • You can calm the nerves of your children with the relaxing scent of chamomile or lavender. Pour about 1 – 2 drops of any of these oils onto their pillow covers to let them have a relaxed sleep.

  • You may also consider pouring 2 – 5 drops of essential oils onto your carpets. This will make your carpets and rooms scented, without making you suffer from allergies and nasal irritation. To do this, mix a cup of cornstarch or baking soda in a big bowl along with about 8 drops of essential oil. Use a fork to break any lumps and stir the mixture properly. Pour the mixture into a can or cheese shaker, and punch a few small holes onto its lid. Liberally sprinkle the oils onto the carpet and wait for half an hour before vacuuming.

You can also use essential oils to make a natural bug spray for your own home. It will assist in keeping mosquitoes away naturally, although it is important to apply them more often and in higher concentrations as compared to DEET repellants. The effectuality of these oils can be reduced due to high temperatures, wind, water, sweat or sunscreen. In order to avoid various kinds of mosquitoes, you should best make bug sprays from a mixture of different volatile plant oils.
